It’s a sharp right after the start funnel for this race, because we are immediately heading into remote territory behind Kinlochleven, beside the River Leven and in gorgeous woodland. Known as the Ciaran Path, this route gradually ascends for 2.5km until a left fork is taken, and the path kicks up steeply, with the turns in the zig-zags giving tremendous views, until ‘the pipeline’ is reached. This iconic pipe carries water from the immense Blackwater Reservoir, and you follow it to its source (intake) at Loch Eilde Mór, before reaching the main wide track and turning left to begin the descent. Soon leaving the main track, the next path is quite literally a site to behold! You’ll need to watch your footing as the view might keep causing you to look up – straight across Loch Leven – a classic view and a stunning memory for this route. Once back near sea level, it’s a short dash through Kinlochleven to reach the buzz at the finish line.
