To get a pre-selection list event team member application just apply as normal. If the Event Organiser is able to offer you a place they will send you an email inviting you to apply. You will then be asked to come back to this site to confirm your event team member application. For more details please see our Pre-selection List Help.

Many thanks for considering helping at Northern Traverse 2026. This includes the following races:

  • Northern Traverse starts Saturday 28th March, courses close Wednesday 1st April
  • Lakes Traverse starts Saturday 28th March, courses close Sunday 29th March
  • Dales Traverse on Sunday 29th March
  • Moors Traverse on Sunday 29th March


We need event team volunteers in a variety of roles (registration, starts, aid stations, finishes, course operations), across a variety of days and locations. We plan to split most of the volunteer event team to work either:

  • Western and Central areas (from St. Bees through the Lakes and Dales to Richmond) where we need people variously from Friday lunchtime to Tuesday
  • Eastern Areas (across the North York Moors to Robin Hood’s Bay) where we need people from Saturday evening through Thursday morning.


On the application please indicate your preferred area (or if you could do either), and the days you can be available (which need not be all the above days for a given area, for example it could just be the weekend in West/Central, but should be a continuous block of at least 2 days). We will then allocate people to days, locations and roles.

West & Central - Weekend Only

  • St Bees Registration
  • Northern Traverse/Lakes Traverse start at St Bees
  • Borrowdale Aid Station
  • Patterdale Aid Station
  • Shap (inc. car parking)
  • Kirkby Stephen / Dales Bike Centre
  • Dales Traverse registration & start in Kirkby Stephen

West & Central - Full Week

  • St Bees / Shap Aid Stations
  • Borrowdale / Richmond Aid Stations
  • Patterdale / Lordstones Aid Stations

East - Weekend Only

  • Robin Hoods Bay car parking & Moors Traverse finish
  • Ingleby Cross Moors Traverse registration & start
  • Lordstones Aid Station
  • Glaisdale Aid Station
  • Falling Foss Water Point

East - Full Week

  • Robin Hoods Bay car parking & Northern Traverse finish
  • Ingleby Cross Moors Traverse registration & start

Important Information

  • You will earn £100 of event credit per full day or £50 per part day, plus high-quality Event Team clothing.

  • Unfortunately, friends and family cannot accompany volunteers during their shifts.

  • You may be required to use event transport between support points. Use of personal vehicles must be agreed in advance and will depend on your role.

  • Accommodation will be provided; tents, village halls, or your own campervan (only if pre-approved).

  • As this is a continuous, non-stop race, shift times will vary and may include night hours.

  • We will cover travel costs to/from the event up to:

    • 500 miles at 20p/mile (£100 max) plus 5p/mile for each additional Event Team passenger, or

    • up to £125 for public transport (except air travel)
